For this month’s Desert Island Delights, we asked Alicia Healey, author, style blogger and former Royal Lady’s Maid what beauty products one should take to a desert island.
Alicia trained as a Royal Lady’s Maid at Buckingham Palace before travelling the world as a wardrobe consultant and stylist. Her book, Wardrobe Wisdom: How To Dress and Take Care of Your Clothes along with her personal instagram account, @aliciajhealey, offer advice on looking after your clothes and how to dress for any occasion.
What 5 items you would pack in your beauty bag to take to a desert island?
1. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Anti-Shine Sun Cream Gel SPF50+
Sun protection would be top of my list on a desert island. I don’t like greasy sun creams on my face as my skin is quite oily, this one is light on the skin with anti-shine.
2. Lanolips Lip Ointment with Colour SPF30 Rhubarb
Five items doesn’t leave much room for makeup, so I’d take this Lanolips lip ointment that combines lip balm with a hint of colour and SPF. You can also dab it on your cheeks for a hint of blush.
3. Gallinée Prebiotic Cleansing Bar
This can be used on the face and body so is great for a desert island survival kit. It’s gentle and non-drying - perfect for my combination skin and as cleansing bars last forever, they work out quite cost-effective. They also cut down on plastic waste and are a good way to reduce your bottled products and be more environmentally friendly.
4. OGX Hydrate & Defrizz+ Kukui Oil Shampoo
I like the OGX range of shampoos and conditioners – my hair does not respond well to tropical climates so this defrizz one will be in my top 5 list to help fight the island humidity!
5. Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara
After skincare essentials the one make up item I would take would be mascara as it’s probably my most ‘essential’ make up item - my eyes look quite sleepy without it. I’m not very loyal to any particular brand, at the moment I’m using Stila huge extreme lash mascara which I’m liking.
In addition to your 5 beauty items, what luxury item would you take with you to the island?
Designer Sunglasses – large oversized ones to stay chic on the island and hide the fact that most of my make-up is back home!
